Who cares about green smoothies right now, it’s Friday. Time to party up.
Well, health is a passion of mine that’s been in a lull. I got caught up in having my first big girl job and having an exciting life again, so I left my health priorities on the back burner. However, everyone around me is showing me up and it’s a great thing. Many people I meet here are into fitness and working out, healthy eating and meal prepping, and just feeling optimal in their skin. Even my boss at work and my hair stylist told me about their interval sprints and weight lifting workouts at Orange Theory. Atlanta is a great place for fitness for that reason. It’s perfect for me in that respect because it’s something I really appreciate. Everyone’s young and they get competitive here. That said, my friends away from here are also keeping me inspired by either training hard and showing results or telling me about new superfoods or juice bars they’re trying out. Hell, one of my friends already told her new friends at a juice bar in Charleston about my blog. I’m thinking SHIIIIYYAATTT..ake mushrooms. My friends are seriously keeping me accountable for this. Maybe some people can stay self motivated 99.99999% of the time, but I think it’s hard sometimes. It makes a huge difference to have a good tribe of people around you who inspire you and help you stay persistent toward things that you care about. Truly, I couldn’t be more thankful for having that. I haven’t provided much of value here, but I will. It just may take some time and consistency to give you guys something that may peak your interest so thank you for being patient. Until then, this will basically act as my personal diary (#sorrynotsorry).
Sooooo… this morning I decided to start my day with a green smoothie! Personally, I like green smoothies over regularly smoothies and juices because the greens and fiber don’t spike my blood sugar as quickly and generally make me feel really good inside. And overtime, you see those results on the outside too. So I’ll share my favorite green smoothie recipe I usually go for. I think it’s a great starter green smoothie if you’re new to them because the flavors are not too intense, but still tasty.
Simple Green Smoothie
- 1 cup spinach
- 1/2 cup cucumbers
- 1 small apple (or 1/2 large apple)
- 1/4 avocado
- 2-3 inch celery stalk (optional)
- 1 cup filtered water
Cut it up and put it in a blender, then blend blend blend! I usually use granny smith apples because I like a tart taste, but if you prefer a sweeter taste then go for sweeter apples! You can also replace spinach with kale, but then I tend to use a lot less because kale gets bitter very easily. Otherwise, play around with the proportions of the ingredients so it suits your taste buds. Sometimes I like adding cinnamon or other herbs. Feel free to get creative!
*SUGGESTION: I’d drink this right away. I noticed that fresh smoothies and juices get bitter when they sit out, even if you keep them in the fridge. I always drink them fresh for that reason because I think you get more nutrients that way.
Stay true my loves,
